Court Rolls

Also written or known as Manor court rolls

Records of a manor's own court.

Manor courts dealt with land changing hands, local disputes and small fines. Their rolls name ordinary villagers over many generations. The court rolls of the Manor of Wakefield, which survive from 1274, are among the best known.
