Recorded in several forms including Hasler, Haseler, Haselar, Haeslar, Haeslier, and Heasler, this is an English surname of great antiquity. It originates from either a place called Haselore in the county of Staffordshire, or Haselor of which there are understood to be two villages, one in Warwickshire and the other in worcestershire. The place names mean the "area where the hazel trees grow", and the first village recording is that of Haselor in Warwickshire. This is recorded as Haselour in the famous Book of 1086. Locational surnames were usually from names.
