The name derives from the Latin "verri" and is a form of descriptive nickname for one who behaved like a wild boar; in the complicated reasoning of the Middle Ages this may also imply a warlike person, i.e. a soldier, or even someone with protruding teeth. It is a name which was also recorded in England; Judith Veree, in the anglicised spelling, being recorded at St. Dunstan's Church, Stepney, on July 29th 1672. The name recordings and examples include the following; Giovani Verrico, christened at San Severo, Foggia, Italia, on March 10th 1859, whilst on December 6th 1922, Caroline Verri married Andrea Vitali at St. Agata, Milano. The Coat of Arms is red with a silver fess charged with a boar, in chief, a black eagle displayed on gold. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Carolina Verrechio, which was dated January 19th 1836, christened at Ortona, Chiet, Italia, during the reign of Pope Gregory XV1, February 2nd 1831 - June 1st 1846.
